Circulation Policies & Procedures

Patron Eligibility and Registration:

Library registration is required of all patrons who plan on borrowing library materials. Either your JSRCC Student ID card or your JSRCC library card is necessary to check out materials.

Check-Out Policies

Students may have up to 15 items checked out at one time. Community patrons may check out up to five books.

Check-out period for books and audiobooks is 4 weeks (28 days) with the possibility of one additional 4-week renewal. The check-out period for popular DVDs is 1 week with no renewal. Some materials may have special loan periods.

Reference books and periodicals may NOT be checked out.

Renewal and Holds

Books may be renewed in person, online, or by telephone during library hours. Books that are overdue or have a hold on them cannot be renewed. Popular DVDs cannot be renewed.

Holds may be placed on all circulating books that are currently checked out or are located at another JSRCC campus library. You must have a JSRCC student ID to place holds.

Delinquent Materials:

Overdue materials that have not been returned will result in a block being placed on the patron's record. Patrons may not check out materials, obtain transcripts or register for classes until the block is cleared. Library blocks will be cleared when the items are returned and/or when the fee is paid.

Patrons who are late in returning DVDs will be charged a $1.00 per day per item fine.

Patrons who lose library materials are required to pay the replacement cost of the lost materials. Minimum replacement fee for lost or damaged books is $65.00 per item. Once an item has been paid for, there will be no refund.

Intra-campus Loans:

Patrons may obtain material from any JSRCC campus library through intra-campus loan. Requests normally arrive within 72 hours.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL):

ILL service is available for materials not held by the library. ILL requests can be submitted online or in print (PDF). Only JSRCC faculty, staff, and students are eligible to borrow on interlibrary loan. Textbooks are not available through interlibrary loan. For further information please see the library's ILL policy (PDF).

Richmond Academic Library Cooperative:

The Richmond Academic Library Cooperative (RALC) provides limited reciprocal borrowing privileges for students, faculty and staff of its members. Borrowers must abide by all policies of the lending library, including loan periods, fines, and replacement charges. Faculty, staff and students must obtain a pass at the Reference Desk in order to borrow from another RALC institution.
