Laptop Loan FAQs

Do you need a laptop to complete this semester? If so, we can help! Please read the FAQs below to learn the details of our Semester Laptop Loan program.

You must be currently enrolled and in good standing at Reynolds Community College.  Please fill out the application.

There is no cost to borrow a laptop.  However, borrowers are responsible for returning laptops on time and in good condition.  Make sure to read your borrowing agreement carefully.

  • You will receive a standard PC laptop with Microsoft 365, Respondus LockDown and basic software. The laptop will also be equipped with a web cam.  If you require special software for a class, contact our Technology Help Desk by calling 804.371.3000 or emailing helpdesk@reynolds.edu.
  • Some departments and programs have provided specialty laptops. When library staff verify your enrollment, they will note whether you are enrolled in a class that requires a specialty device. If you aren’t enrolled in one of these courses, you will receive a standard laptop.

Requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We try to respond to requests within one business day, as our supply allows. Once you are approved, an email will be sent to your student email account. However, when necessary, you may receive a phone call.

You must check out the laptop in person with a valid Reynolds ID or valid photo ID.

A due date will be assigned at checkout. The typical loan period is the duration of your class(es) for that semester. A reminder email of your due date will be sent to your college email address.

No, you will need to reapply for a laptop by completing the Laptop Loan Request form

Return the laptop ASAP to avoid being billed the full replacement cost.

Laptop must be returned directly to a Library Circulation Desk staff member on the same campus that it was checked out from.

All files and and logins will be erased once the laptop is returned. Please save any files to the cloud or a flash drive.

You will be billed for the full replacement costs for the laptop and accessories not returned, damaged or lost. A hold will be placed on your MyReynolds account. You will not be allowed to register for classes, borrow library materials, request transcripts, or participate in graduation until the issue is resolved.

The Library reserves the right to refuse a laptop loan to anyone who is repeatedly late in returning a laptop and accessories.

Costs to repair or replace damaged laptops will be evaluated by the Reynolds Department of Technology.  A billing letter will be issued to the user once the appraisal is completed. The damaged laptop remains the property of the state. The replacement cost of the laptop may exceed $1000.

College-owned computers including laptops do not allow you to change settings or install software. If you need special software for a class that isn't already installed on the laptop, call the Technology Help Desk at 804.371.3000 or email helpdesk@reynolds.edu. In most cases, Technology staff can install hat you need remotely using the TeamViewer app already on your laptop.
